Why we love this tour
There’s something unforgettable about exploring Japan by train, soaking up centuries-old temples, buzzing cities, and tranquil mountain retreats all in one trip.
With a friendly group, expert guidance, and seamless travel, it’s simply the best way to experience authentic Japan.
About this tour
This nine-day journey travels from Osaka to Tokyo, offering a well-balanced itinerary of vibrant urban life, peaceful historic sites, and scenic countryside. Cultural highlights include a temple stay on sacred Koya-san, exploring Hiroshima’s moving Peace Park, and savouring Kyoto’s timeless beauty. Designed for those who appreciate immersive travel, the tour maximises local experiences with expert guides and small-group camaraderie, using Japan’s efficient public transport to access a variety of destinations in comfort.
Expect plenty of walking as you wander through lively districts, atmospheric shrines, and lush landscapes. The itinerary is ideal for culturally-curious travellers keen to blend tradition and modernity in one comprehensive adventure. The group size is kept intimate (10–15 people), and the tour is suitable for those with moderate fitness due to the active pace and nature of the travel.
What's included
Included in the package are eight nights’ accommodation in well-located hotels and one memorable night at a temple guesthouse. Breakfasts are included most days, along with select traditional meals such as a Buddhist shojin-ryori dinner. All internal public transport travel between destinations is arranged, including local trains, limited express, and bullet trains.
An experienced Chief Experience Officer (CEO) leads the group throughout, providing insights into Japanese culture, history, and traditions. Guided visits and entrance fees to key attractions are covered, ensuring a worry-free exploration. A complimentary 1GB eSIM for connectivity and 24/7 domestic support also add to the convenience.
International flights and travel insurance are not included, and single supplements or pre/post-tour nights can be arranged at extra cost. Luggage handling is self-managed due to public transport logistics, so packing light is recommended.
Where you'll stay
You’ll stay in comfortable hotels chosen for their great locations, providing easy access to local sights and transport hubs. In Koya-san, experience a unique night in a shukubo (temple guesthouse), with tatami mats, futon bedding, and a tranquil Buddhist atmosphere. This cultural highlight offers a glimpse into monastic life and vegetarian cuisine.
Hotel rooms are clean and practical, designed for modern convenience with Wi-Fi and typical amenities. Breakfast is included on most mornings to start the day, and local restaurants or street food offer a chance to sample authentic Japanese flavours for other meals.
Accommodation is on a twin-share basis, but single supplements can be booked if desired. Note that you’ll need to manage your own luggage, as the tour uses public transport throughout.
